Homemade Coffee Cake with Cinnamon and Nuts

Sourdough Coffee Cake

Sourdough? In a coffee cake? Don’t knock it until you try it, because it’s seriously good and seriously simple. Just combine sourdough starter with a few ingredients, top with a cinnamon brown sugar crumble and you’re good to go.

Ingredients - Cake:

1 cup sourdough starter

1⁄3 cup vegetable oil

1 egg (slightly beaten)

1 cup all-purpose flour

3⁄4 cup sugar

1⁄2 tsp salt

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp cinnamon

Ingredients - Topping:

1 tsp cinnamon

1⁄2 cup brown sugar

2 tbsp butter

1 tbsp all-purpose flour

Directions:

  1. Combine sourdough starter, oil and egg.
  2. Stir together dry ingredients and add to sourdough mixture.
  3. Put dough into greased nine-inch square pan.
  4. Crumble topping ingredients together and sprinkle topping on top of batter.
  5. Bake for 35 minutes at 350°F.
  6. Enjoy!
