Three food charities to support in Alberta

Share your plate with those in need

From physical mental health to finances, the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to challenge us in ways we never saw coming. One bright spot over the past year has been the response from Canadians–from frontline workers to local charities, the generosity and support has made a significant impact on people across our country.

For Random Acts of Kindness Day on February 17, we’re sharing our plate with fellow Albertans with a $5,000 donation to Food Banks Alberta. If you have the resources to do so, we encourage you to share your plate and support a local food charity this month. We’ve found three great options to support Albertans.

The Mustard Seed

With operations in many of Alberta’s larger cities, The Mustard Seed has provided basic needs like food, clothing and hygiene items as well as education and employment support to Albertans experiencing poverty and homelessness for over 35 years. You can support The Mustard Seed through various volunteer opportunities, creating fundraising events or sponsoring meals.

Alberta Food Banks

Food Banks Alberta supports a network of 92 foodbanks across the province each month. Food Banks Alberta creates new opportunities and provides resources and programs to the network of Albertan Food Banks so they can support the over 80,000 Albertans who receive food from our food banks each month.  You can support them through monetary donations or in one of their programs.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels provides daily meal service for vulnerable, homebound, and isolated individuals and families in Alberta. The Edmonton and Calgary locations has volunteer opportunities drivers meal prep and grocery shopping as monetary donations.
